EMDR in practice
-
Assessment and Targets
Taking 1-3 sessions, at this stage EMDR is about information gathering, with a thorough overview of past experiences and family history. In addition to Genograms and timelines, we also look at the memories you need to process, the symptoms you are experiencing and your therapy goals. We use various techniques to install the resilience tools to support you with the EMDR process. We’ll also test out what is your preferred method of delivery- light bar, pressure clickers, sounds or any combination. This therapy can be done online or in-person using specialist equipment provided
-
Processing
Each target (the events, memories, thoughts, feelings) is processed. The EMDR therapy stimulates the natural healing function of the brain, creating connections in memory networks to accelerate the processing of disturbing memories. The EMDR stimulation will last for a short interval and you will then be asked to report back on the experiences noting changes in thoughts, images and feelings.

Installing
With repeated sets of EMDR stimulation, your memories will change to become a neutral and will lose their painful association. The linking of multiple related memories can lead to a rapid improvement to reach the pre-agreed therapy goals. We will install positive thoughts that will help support the improvements you experience with this therapy. EMDR is considered to be an empowering therapy because of the new insights and connections created.
