My approach
Clients come to me in private practice with a range of issues that they want to explore in a safe, non-judgmental environment. All my work comes from a position of curiosity: you are the expert on your life – my role is to help you gain insight and make the changes needed to resolve or adapt to the challenges you are facing.
Together we delve into what you are confronting – looking at it emotionally, rationally and analytically, gently probing and searching for an understanding that will give you a fresh perspective.
During our sessions, I may draw upon a variety of therapy approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution -Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), all grounded in a Person-Centred framework.
Sometimes sessions are all in words; sometimes if you are struggling to express how you feel, we may use pictures or experiential work to remove the obstacles you may be putting in your path to healing. Whatever route we take, we will choose it collaboratively, creating a personalised programme which will empower you to make changes and give you the practical coping strategies and skills to support you in your everyday life.
How do we begin?
Once you’ve got in touch, we will have an initial conversation (by phone or zoom)to explore what help you feel you need and how I can support you. We will look at the challenges you are facing now, any symptoms (emotional and physical) that you may be experiencing and how you would like things to be in the future. If we decide we are the right fit to move forward together, then we will arrange our first session. This starts with a systemic family genogram (a visual map of your emotional and physical connections) and, if appropriate, a timeline, which form the foundation for our ongoing work together. You should allow approximately 75-90 minutes for this session.
